Commitment to total quality care, heroic service in tragedy and solid fiscal management drive success
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., February 27, 2018 — Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS), one of the largest providers of acute and behavioral healthcare in America, is pleased to announce it has once again been selected by Fortune as one of the "World's Most Admired Companies" in 2018. The ranking is considered the gold standard for corporate reputation measuring a company's fiscal management, services provided and commitment to social responsibility.
"I am proud to again say that UHS is honored to be recognized as one of the 'World's Most Admired Companies' by Fortune," said Alan B. Miller, founder and CEO of UHS. "Our consistent presence on this list over the past eight years is a testament to the tremendous work done every day by our 81,000 employees and their commitment to total patient care - treating the mind and body of our patients and enabling them to live their best life."
For nearly 40 years, UHS has been a leader in the healthcare management industry and is recognized for delivering quality care. National, state and local organizations continue to honor UHS employees and facilities for achieving high outcome clinical measures, quality metrics and for its commitment to community service.
The Fortune "World's Most Admired" designation is highly coveted by companies around the world because of the rigorous review process, high standards and required peer assessment each company must undergo to make the list. UHS has made the list every year since 2011 and this year is one of only five companies in the Healthcare/Medical Facilities sector to be bestowed with this honor.
"UHS appreciates the opportunity to again be selected for the list of 'Most Admired Companies', an honor based in large part on input from our industry peers and other key opinion leaders," said Marc D. Miller, president of UHS. "Healthcare is a very competitive, highly regulated business sector that is constantly evolving."
2017 — A Year of Tragedy and Triumph
Universal Health Services saw solid growth while responding to the critical needs of the communities it serves across the nation. In early October, the company provided aid to those injured during the Las Vegas sniper shootings, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Six UHS hospitals in the greater Las Vegas area received a total of 232 patients during this event. UHS physicians and caregivers responded heroically in treating and caring for every patient.
UHS facilities also supported areas impacted by national disasters during a record hurricane season with major storms hitting Florida, Texas and islands in the Gulf of Mexico. Once again members of the UHS team met the challenge of providing care and saving lives in very challenging environments — many times placing their own lives in harm's way.
In behavioral health, UHS also kept its commitment to military service members and their families through its Patriot Support Program. The Program is a national network of 24 behavioral treatment centers, support staff and medical professionals across 13 states dedicated to treating active members of the military, veterans and their families to help them cope with the emotional and psychological effects of combat.
