Healing invisible wounds

Up to 20 percent of veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the National Center for PTSD.

Did you know?

As a healthcare company, UHS has long had a strong commitment to the men and women who serve and protect our nation. The Patriot Support Program is a national network of behavioral treatment centers, support staff and medical professionals dedicated to treating active members of the military, veterans and their families to help them cope with the emotional and psychological effects of combat.

UHS salutes the brave men and women who serve on behalf of our country. Each of them comes home a hero deserving of our deepest admiration and endless gratitude. As an advocate for our heroes, we feel it’s important to treat those who may return home with a scar those around them can’t see: behavioral or emotional trauma. It’s one of the reasons why we established the UHS Patriot Support Program.

Our national network of behavioral treatment centers is dedicated to supporting members of the military, veterans and their families. The program helps them cope with the emotional and psychological effects of combat, multiple deployments and separation.

The Patriot Support Program includes a comprehensive range of care that we offer in collaboration with the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and TRICARE®.

They enabled me to turn my life around and gave me back to my family with a positive attitude and clear mind.

Our multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, physicians and clinicians that work closely with base personnel to help patients achieve treatment goals established by Military Command.

Each facility has a dedicated military liaison who maintains appropriate and consistent communication with everyone involved in the plan of care.

Patriot Support Centers of Excellence accommodate the military infrastructure with special amenities such as a streamlined admission process and special command access. Treatment includes comprehensive medication management and focuses on reintegration, resilience and daily physical training.

UHS behavioral health facilities are the leading provider of behavioral health services through TRICARE and our certified and networked programs service all TRICARE regions, The Veterans Health Administration, active duty personnel, members of the Reserve/National Guard Ready Reserve Services for Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Veterans and their families.

Reaching out

As much as we are proud of the Patriot Support Program, we know we could help even more. One of the challenges we face is the perceived shame by some veterans to seek medical treatment due to mental trauma. We want to tell them, “it’s not a weakness.”

Heisman trophy winner, Herschel Walker is a national spokesman for the program. Walker, who has broken free from his own shame related to mental illness, now provides emotional and motivational support to service members, veterans and military families by conducting public speaking engagements on mental health anti-stigma.

Active personnel and veterans have heeded the call to defend our country and give their lives to protect ours. Through our Patriot Support Program, UHS seeks to help our national heroes and their families receive the support and care they need for their service and sacrifice.
