Introduction
Universal Health Services, Inc. ("UHS") is dedicated to the provision of quality healthcare to its patients consistent with the Company's mission.
UHS is committed to conducting all of its business in compliance with ethical standards and all applicable laws, rules and regulations. This Code of Conduct and Compliance Manual does not represent any change from UHS' prior practices, but, rather, is a recordation and compilation of those practices to guide all Employees.
The laws governing all relationships among hospitals, other institutional health providers and physicians are constantly evolving and have become increasingly complex. To ensure the provision of quality healthcare in compliance with those laws, UHS has developed a Compliance Manual and Code of Conduct. The Compliance Manual establishes UHS' standards, policies and procedures regarding compliance with applicable law governing certain financial relationships among hospitals, other institutional health providers and physicians or other potential sources of referrals, and is designed to ensure that UHS' billing practices comply with applicable law.
The Compliance Manual is intended to apply to all UHS facilities. If an Employee has any question about the application of this Compliance Manual, he or she should inquire of a Compliance Officer, his or her supervisor, or a member of the Compliance Committee.
Employees should be generally familiar with the applicable laws which govern the matters set forth in the Compliance Manual as it pertains to each respective Employee's duties. That familiarity shall be part of every Employee's job performance and a regular part of that Employee's review.
This Compliance Manual does not address every aspect of UHS' activities and the applicable legal issues they may entail. Employees should consult UHS' established policies and procedures and seek the guidance of Compliance Officers or supervisors with respect to any other issues that may arise.
Any action taken in violation of the Compliance Manual is beyond the scope of employment and may subject the Employee to sanctions by UHS Corporate Office or the appropriate UHS Facility including, but not limited to, termination of employment.
Employees shall receive education regarding this Compliance Manual and Code of Conduct. Any Employee who has questions about this Compliance Manual should contact his or her Compliance Officer. A toll-free hotline and a Web site have also been established to provide Employees with a confidential way to raise their concerns.
All violations, suspected violations, questionable conduct, or questionable practices shall be reported by employees to the appropriate UHS Facility Compliance Officer or the Corporate Compliance Committee in person or to UHS on the hotline or through the Web site. The caller or author may report all information anonymously.
UHS policy forbids any retaliatory action against an employee for making any good faith compliance report.
