Medical Plans

UHS offers several medical alternatives to employees

91383993_350UHS offers its employees several medical plans that vary in cost, deductibles and what the total amount of an employee's maximum out-of-pocket medical expenses could be. Medical plan options also vary by location and not all plans are available at all locations.

Most plans are a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) or Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) model, and pay the highest level of benefits for care provided at UHS or network facilities and fewer (if any) benefits for care received at non-participating providers. Complete plan descriptions and cost information on plans offered at each location are provided to new employees by the local Human Resources Department.

All UHS medical options are comprehensive plans that require employees to pay either an annual deductible or small copay before the plan begins to pay benefits. All plans cover the following medical services:

  • Hospital charges
  • Surgical expenses
  • Diagnostic X-ray and lab expenses
  • Emergency services
  • Physician services
  • Prescription drugs
  • Mental health benefits

There is no deductible or copay requirement for preventive care, including women’s preventive healthcare services and contraception

Total Healthcare Management

Most UHS medical plan options include total healthcare management programs including:

  • Hospital precertification and notification
  • Care Management — Health information and tips from a registered nurse for you or family members with a long term condition
  • Nurse Advice Line — Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for health advice from a registered nurse
