About UHS

Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) is one of the largest and most respected hospital management companies in the nation.

Founded in 1978 by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan B. Miller, Universal Health Services, Inc. has built an impressive record of achievement and performance. UHS has steadily grown from a startup company with zero revenue into a Fortune 500 corporation with annual revenue that exceeds $7.5 billion. Despite challenging economic conditions, UHS produced net income of approximately $400 million in 2011.

Our principal business is owning and operating, through our subsidiaries, acute care hospitals, behavioral health centers, surgical hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and radiation oncology centers. As of March 31, 2013, we owned and/or operated 23 acute care hospitals and 197 behavioral health centers located in 37 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As part of our ambulatory treatment centers division, we manage and/or own outright or in partnerships with physicians, five surgical hospitals and surgery and radiation oncology centers located in four states. In October 2012, we acquired Ascend Health Corporation ("Ascend"). Ascend was the largest private behavioral health provider with nine owned or leased freestanding inpatient facilities located in five states

The company's success is grounded in an operating philosophy that has proven to be effective: Build or acquire high quality hospitals in rapidly growing markets, then invest in the people and equipment needed to allow each facility to thrive and become a dominant healthcare provider in its community. For example, a $190 million dollar project is now underway to implement electronic health records at the company's acute care hospitals. When completed in 2013, the new information system will help enhance quality of care and patient safety, allow physicians and staff members to work more effectively and help reduce operating expenses through greater efficiency.

UHS continues to believe that community-based hospitals will remain the focal point of the nation's healthcare delivery system, and will continue to emphasize innovation in its response to rapid changes in regulatory trends and market conditions.

Universal Health Services, Inc. is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa. and is ranked 339 on the 2012 Fortune 500 list of America's largest corporations, and was listed among Fortune's "Most Admired Companies" in 2011.

Universal Health Services, Inc. is a public company with common stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol UHS. The company acts as the advisor to Universal Health Realty Income Trust, a real estate investment trust founded by Alan B. Miller in 1985 (NYSE: UHT).
